Makani Nui Associates, LLC (“MN”) is a Maui based company dedicated to the development and operation of renewable energy projects, primarily wind energy, throughout the State of Hawaii. Kent Smith has the majority ownership of MN and his development company, KSD Hawaii, provides consulting services to MN.

MN is a partner, with Boston based UPC Wind Partners, LLC, in the development of the Kaheawa Pastures Wind Farm project on Maui, which when completed will be the State’s largest.  Construction on this $70 million dollar project began in the late summer of 2005.  The Kaheawa Pastures Wind Farm project is expected to provide Maui Electric Company with approximately 9% of its average annual power needs when it is fully operational in the late Spring of 2006.
